Silicone Breast Implants
The single largest issue that my patients will spend time during their consultation is implant size. A close second is the silicone implant. First a discussion on safety is warranted. Other issues are duration, rupture rate and what complications exist with the specific implant used most frequently.
First the silicone implant is afe. It is comparatively as safe as the saline impant. It is FDA approved. The difference between the thrid generation implant and the earlier models are that the wll is thicker and has an inner layer which protects against rupture. Equally important is the fact that the gel is more cohesive menaing thicker. So in the case of a rupture the gel is less likely to move out of the area.
The silicone implant has been studied quite extensively. Fourteen years to be exact and this makes it at the very least a safe alternative to the saline breast implant.
Patients will often ask me what is the chance of having to replace the implant. The chances are small but do exist. There is no planned obsolescence. Meaning that the implants are safe and are designed to last. The complication rate is similar to the saline implant but the real advantage is that it is a very natural result. It looks and feels more natural and has a lower incidence of rippling.
I recommend silicone implants to my patients without hesitation
