Breast Augmentation: Tips for a Quicker Recovery

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures available today. It can effectively enhance the size and shape or your breasts, restore breast volume after pregnancy, correct asymmetrical breasts, reconstruct your breasts after mastectomy, and help your clothes and swimwear look and fit better.  If you’re interested in undergoing breast augmentation, here are some things to know ahead of time to help minimize the effects of this procedure and help you recover more quickly:

Treat Your Nausea
It’s very common to feel nauseated after breast augmentation surgery. Many doctors recommend the use of anti-nausea medication pre- and post-surgery to help reduce nausea and vomiting. Talk to your doctor about prescribing an anti-nausea drug to you before you have breast augmentation surgery to help with this inconvenient side-effect.

Wear Special Undergarments
Immediately following breast augmentation surgery, you will experience soreness in your breasts. They also typically become hard and sensitive after the procedure. Wearing special compression garments can help ramp up your recovery time by helping to reduce swelling. To make your recovery more comfortable, there are many types of compression wraps available, including vests, bras and foam garments. Your doctor can help you decide what’s best for you.

Use Ice Packs
Applying ice packs to your breasts for the first 48 hours after surgery is optimal for preventing swelling. It also helps with any discomfort you may feel after your breast augmentation procedure.

Keep a Close Eye On Your Incision
Do a periodic self-examination on your incision to make sure you are not getting an infection. To avoid any post-operative complications, be sure to follow your doctor’s post-operative instructions closely, including taking any prescribed medications regularly and on time.

Get Plenty of Rest
Resting after surgery is essential to your recover process. Your body will be sore, so be sure to get as much rest as possible to help you recuperate. It’s also best to avoid any strenuous activity for at least the first three weeks after surgery to ensure you’re healing properly.
