What Is The Recovery Process for Breast Augmentation?

breast augmentation (4)Breast augmentation is a very popular cosmetic procedure that many women decide to undergo to achieve the body that they desire. It works to enhance the shape, volume, and contour of the breasts to give them a more youthful and aesthetic appearance. This can be life-changing for women who are experiencing a lack of self-confidence due to their breasts. Having smaller breasts, or breasts that are disproportionate can be a main cause of embarrassment in a woman’s life. Breast augmentation gives women the bodies that they need to be confident and happy.

Although breast augmentation is a very common procedure, it is a procedure that takes some recovery time. It is important to understand what that recovery process looks like when deciding if a breast augmentation is a good fit for you. In this blog, we will go over what the recovery timeline looks like for this amazing procedure.

Recovery Process

Immediately After Surgery

Immediately after the surgery, you will feel mild pain and discomfort in the breast area. Your doctor will talk to you and let you know all you need to know for the weeks ahead.

Week 1

During the week following your breast augmentation surgery, pain, and discomfort should begin to subside. You may experience some swelling and bruising around the breast area as well. You should avoid any exercise and look to rest as much as possible, as this will only help speed up your recovery process. Most patients can go back to work after their first week of the recovery process.

Weeks 2-3

During this time frame, you should be able to return to your normal daily routine, excluding heavy-impact exercise, which can be resumed about a month after your surgery. You may still be seeing bruising or swelling, but it should be minimal compared to how it was immediately after your procedure.

Weeks 3+

Bruising and swelling should be minimal now, and you should be able to return to strenuous activity around week 4. At first, your breasts may sit higher up on your chest than you were hoping for and may feel very firm, this is because they must go through a settling phase for the next couple of months, in which they will drop to their ideal position.
